I’m a PhD student working on Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) under the direction of Dorothée Duluc.
Chronic Lymphocytic leukemia is the most common haematological cancer in Europe and United States. It affects especially the elderly and is characterized by an accumulation of malignant B cells in blood. Some patients present many diverse complications like immunosuppression and infections or auto-immune disorders and secondary cancers which are more aggressive.
I’m studying a specific T cells subsets called Follicular helper T cells (Tfh). These lymphocytes are specialized in the help of B cells in healthy people and support their survival, proliferation and immune functions. It is why we wanted to understand their potential implication in CLL. Do they also support the malignant B cell proliferation and survival ? Are they still able to fulfill their role in the help of normal B cells in a pathological context ?
We hope, by answering these questions to better understand both Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and Follicular helper T cells.
